Space for discussions

8th Paderborn Mixed-Media Symposium

The topics discussed and presented included, among others, conveying and transporting, grinding, agglomerating, compacting, packaging, storing, mixing and mixing-related processes. The symposium gave a voice to industrial companies that manufacture machines for the above-mentioned topics. Interesting industry trends are highlighted. The two-day event ends with a factory tour. The symposium has become the leading event and industry get-together for ‘powder topics’ in the field of life science.

Mixing and refining bulk solids

Instant drinks, tea, pudding powder, ready-made soup, baking mix, muesli, mixed feed and cereals are just a few examples of typical solid mixtures. Due to the increased growth of these dry and instant products, there are now a vast number of manufacturing methods.

Behind all these products is a complex production process that plays a major role in determining the product properties and quality. Colour, flavour, solubility, pourability and shelf life are just a few examples of the quality criteria for instant food, which are largely determined by the type of mixing and agglomeration process. These process steps are therefore of central importance.

Regarding the picture on the right: the many steps from the receipt of raw materials to the end product can be seen as examples. The complexity increases with the number of raw materials, the number of end products and the degree of automation.

Mixer with vertically mounted mixing tools

Amixon GmbH is, to a certain extent, a synonym for powder mixers with vertically mounted mixing shafts. In the symposium lecture, the flow through three-dimensional shear mixing was presented. The goods are conveyed upwards along the mixing chamber wall and flow down in the centre of the mixing chamber. Ideal mixing qualities are achieved that cannot be improved in practice.

The two-day event concluded with a tour of the amixon factory.
